November 4, 2013

We left Sydney this morning and headed down the coast on the M-1 motorway and the A-1 Highway and then up the King's Highway to Canberra.  Getting out of Sydney in Monday-morning traffic was a real treat, and it took about 2 hours to get down the road out into the countryside.  Before we left the hotel, though, Pat made a new friend in the Car Park under the building:

The car was advertising the production of the musical "Grease".  Now, all we have to do is figure out how to drive the thing when it arrives at home with the steering wheel on the wrong side!

When we stopped for lunch along the way, Pat decided to help feed the local population of sea gulls:

The A-1, which wanders down the coastline, had some beautiful views along the way.  The pictures below were taken at a couple spots along the coast near Ulladilla:

If you look at the rocks down on the beach, it's no wonder there's a lighthouse located here:

A little further down the road we came upon this view from the roadside:

And to prove we were here:

And near the town of Bungendore, Pat was making friends with a little flock of Magpies:

We're in Canberra for a couple days and will be taking in some of the local sights while we're here.  More to follow!
