November 2, 2013

Another beautiful day here in Sydney.  We headed out on the Hop-on/Hop-off bus for the Darling Harbour area to see the Sea Life Aquarium and the Wildlife Park.  Both were located on the wharf at Darling Harbour just across from the Maritime Museum.  The Sea Life Aquarium was unique in that sections of the aquarium consisted of long glass "tubes" under the water, where you could see the sharks, rays, and fish swimming over your head and all around you:

Below is a Black-Tipped Shark swimming over our heads:

And here are a couple Manta Rays swimming by:

This was all pretty darned neat.

The wildlife park was adjacent to the aquarium and was also very interesting.  Australia is home to some of the world's most deadly snakes, spiders, and crocodiles.  Gotta watch what you're doing in the Outback, I guess.

This was one of the most dangerous examples of its species known to man:

As you can see, Pat barely escaped a fatal attack!

The next critters we saw were these Wallabies, smaller cousins of the Kangaroo:

We also saw a couple kangaroos, which can reach over 7 feet in height (but not these guys):

And, as you might expect, we had several examples of these Koala's:

In addition to all this, we saw snakes, spiders, the world's largest cockroach (about the size of your thumb), and lots of other interesting critters.

After we got back to the room, we took this shot of the sunset from our balcony:

Tomorrow, we're picking up a car and heading out west of Sydney 50 miles or so to the Blue Mountains.  (Should be fun driving through Sydney  on the wrong side of the road!)  This has been a great trip and Pat and I are really enjoying ourselves.
