We had a very nice day in Sydney today. We had pre-purchased tickets for the Sydney hop-on, hop-off trolley, which runs two 90-minute loops around Sydney and out to Bondi Beach on the coast.
Our first stop was the Australian Museum, which was sort of a local history, archaeological, and cultural museum, actually pretty interesting. Here is our hostess pointing out some of the interesting sights on the outside of the museum building:
And here is our host beside a display of aboriginal art:
Well, ok...maybe there wasn't that much noteworthy in the museum.
After the Australian Museum, we left on the trolley and went out to the Bondi Beach area. Just across from the Museum, though, was St. Mary's Cathedral, which we thought was very interesting:
Bondi Beach was really pretty, a combination of some of the best beaches we've ever seen along with an active business area with shops, restaurants, and the like. The scenery was really beautiful:
And looking in the opposite direction:
After leaving Bondi Beach, we headed on over to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Here is the Bridge from near the Opera House:
The Opera House was every bit as beautiful as you've seen in the pictures. Here's proof we were there:
I thought this was interesting. Looking at the arches on the main building, they look an awful lot like the helmets that the conquistadors wore:
From the Opera House you could see over to the Sydney Harbour Bridge. If you look closely, you can see people climbing the bridge on a guided tour:
The next stop today was the Powerhouse Museum, set in the powerhouse for Sydney's old trolley system. The museum was interesting with a lot of salvaged exhibits from the "Age of Steam", including this, the first steam locomotive in Australia (1855):
After this, we headed over to Darling Harbour, on of the tonier areas of Sydney for dinner and then back to the hotel for the night. In the morning, I'm doing the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb and then we have plans to see more areas of the city, thanks to the hop-on hop-off trolley.
